The wanderer's face lit as they walked up the hill and came upon the old broken Cathedral. It was a cold December evening, and the snow had harried them for miles since the last township. The Cathedral, even as broken as it was, was as a blessing.

It was eerily quiet, and the of the old weather beaten door groaned in protest at the wanderer's push. The creaking of the old hinges echoed loudly through the still air.

The wanderer closed the door, and took a sigh of relief - all too soon.

As if it heard the wanderer, the Cathedral's bell began to toll. Each loud peal of the metal rung harsh over the countryside, piercing through the very storm that the wanderer had sought refuge from.

In the cold silence that followed, the wanderer beheld a terrible sight - from the rafters came a heavy shadow gliding on leathery wings as it circled overhead, and dropped out of its flight to the ground with a light clap.

No sooner than it had appeared was it at the wanderer's side, its fangs flashing brightly in the pale moonlight.

There was a flash of pain.
The sound of blood as it dripped onto the cold wooden floor.
The creature inhaled sharply.

The wanderer wasn't sure how long they had been unconscious. Their head felt heavy and their body heavier - with the remnants of nightmarish visions echoing through their head. The creature was gone, and the Cathedral undisturbed.

Stumbling to their feet, the wanderer turned and threw open the Cathedral door, letting the warm sunlight stream into the abandoned building.

In a brilliant flash...the wanderer was no more.

The Cathedral's bell let out a cry.
